Postcard franked Abingdon 1916 - Country Series 1489 (Ref: PC_Ab0158)

The Abingdon Cottage Hospital opened in 1886 after Christ’s Hospital had provided land in Bath Street and John Creemer Clarke (1821-1895) had covered the building costs.  The building remained in use until 1930 when the Warren Hospital, converted from a large Victorian house, was opened on Radley Road. The original site in Bath Street is now Mercers’ Court, part of Abingdon School, built in a style reminiscent of the original hospital.
