"Contrasting Schooldays in Sutton Courtenay from the Victorian School to Courtenay Lodge School

Tuesday 26th January 2016 at 7.30 pm

Venue: Sutton Courtenay Village Hall

A look at two different schools and the lives of the children attending them.

Mary Thompson spoke about the Victorian School which was established in the High Street in 1849.  Clare Simpson spoke about Courtenay Lodge School which was set up and run by Captain Fox early in the 1900s.

The two-part illustrated talk described the background to these two different schools which both played an important role in the history of the village, as well as illustrating what life was like for the children who attended them.

The school in the High Street closed in 1969 when a new one was built in Bradstocks Way.  Courtenay Lodge School moved to new premises near Reading in 1932.
