SImilarly the open day on 14th October at the Oxfordshire Museum Resource Centre in Standlake will provide another opportunity to see this vast collection, which the Society last visited some time ago.

Kingdom of Wessex Trail

The Society is involved in a project by the Sylva Foundation in Long Wittenham.  In 2016 the remains of a large Anglo-Saxon house or hall were excavated there by the Oxford University School of Archaeology.

With the aid of a Heritage Lottery Fund grant, the aim is to reconstruct the building in authentic materials.  It will be a valuable educational resource for schools and the public.  

Starting in Sutton Courtenay, a Kingdom of Wessex trail will be created to link the building with other important Anglo-Saxon sites at Sutton Courtenay and Dorchester.

Annual General Meeting

The date, time and venue for the Society’s 2018 AGM have been announced.  

The meeting will be held on Thursday 10th May 2018 at 7.30 pm in the SC Village Hall and will be followed by presentations and discussion on the theme “Focus on Sutton Courtenay.”
