Scans of several postcards recently acquired by Nigel French have been uploaded to the website.  These postcards show views of Church Street, Sutton Courtenay Schoolthe Weir, The Wharf, Sutton Courtenay Manor, and Abbey View in Sutton Courtenay, as well as many more of Abingdon and Sutton Courtenay’s neighbouring parishes.

OLHA - Autumn Study Day

Thame

The Oxford Local History Association’s autumn study day will be on Saturday 15 October 2016 in Thame. 

Three expert speakers will discuss various aspects of the history of this ancient and fascinating market town, and there will be an opportunity to visit the excellent museum and to go on a town walk.

Talk on History of Oxford Botanic Gardens

At the Society’s meeting on Tuesday 27th September 2016, Timothy Walker, former Director of the Oxford Botanic gardens, gave a talk on the history of the  Gardens from their foundation in the 17th century to the present day.  For a brief report see here.

OLHA Study Day 10th May 2016

The next Oxfordshire Local History Association study day will be on Tuesday 10th May starting at 9.30 am at the Weston Library in Oxford. 

In the morning, five expert speakers will introduce the many resources available to Oxfordshire local historians at the Bodleian Library, and explain how to access them.   There will also be the opportunity for an optional guided tour of the Bodleian Library in the afternoon

Visit to Soldiers of Oxfordshire Museum

A visit will be held on Wednesday 16th March 2016 to the Soldiers of Oxfordshire Museum in Woodstock.  

The main purpose of the visit will be to go on a guided tour of the Exhibition: “Above the Dreaming Spires: Oxfordshire’s Great War Aviation Story.”

Members : Free ; Non-members : £5.00

There will also be the opportunity to visit the Oxfordshire Museum, which is located next door to SOFO and to which admission is free.

Travel and other arrangements:

Depart Sutton Courtenay at 9.30am for the tour of the museum at about 10.30am.   We hope to share transport, so please indicate if you are willing to drive or would like a lift.   Afterwards you may wish to stay in Woodstock for lunch.  The Oxfordshire Museum has a cafe for light refreshments or there are many places to eat in Woodstock.
